GATE Architecture/ Planning

1.       Astropolis – star-scaled city/industry area; complex space station.
2.       Acropolis- Citadel located close to Athens, Greece and has ruins of Parthenon, stoa.
3.       Cosmopolis – a large urban centre with a population of many different cultural backgrounds
4.       Decapolis – a group of ten cities
5.       Dodecapolis – a group of twelve cities.
6.       Dynapolis- Islamabad, new capital of Pakistan, was designed by Coastantinos. Doxiadis (1913-75), a famous Greek planner, in 1960 on the basis of his theory of dynapolis.
7.       Ecumenopolis – a city that covers an entire planet, usually seen in science fiction.
8.         Eopolis - the period of village                                                                                           (GATE 1997 )
9.       Megalopois- built by merging several cities and their suburbs (Coined by Gottmann)
10.    Metropolis- city with population of 10 lacs and above in India
11.     Necropolis- city of dead (graveyard)                                                                               (GATE 1999)
12.    Pentapolis – a group of five cities

13.     Technopolis- a city with high-tech industry.                                                                   (GATE 2004)
